The Mystery of Edwin Drood is a musical based on the unfinished Charles Dickens novel of the same name. It is campy period musical that allows for some deliciously British humor, high-energy songs, and a murderer — who the audience votes for every night. In our production, we sought to create the rich and textured look of an English music hall, with bright colors and patterns, while still paying reference to the fashions of the times.
I took particular care with the costume of Miss Rosa Bud, as the creative team and I thought it important for her to be a vision of precious perfection. She became a frothy pink confection, fragile and sweet, creating a stark contrast between who she was, and who she appeared to be.
